Fisker Karma: Electric Sports
Sportsmanship, elegance and efficiency. The Fisker Karma has everything to become one of the most exclusive cars. An extended-range electric vehicle, the Ampera Opel style, but raised to the maximum.
Called to be the electric sports luxury benchmark, the Fisker Karma gets the driver “mesmerized” by the futuristic sound that appears soon after starting the more than 2,000 kilos of the vehicle. Aesthetically elegant silhouette with a very careful, would certainly be the winner of the night. They say comparisons are odious, but with the Fisker Karma is impossible not to remember the Opel Ampera . The concept is the same, both are extended-range electric vehicles, but the karma is much more powerful and surprising.
In front is the 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine of 260 hp, as the Ampera, auxiliary drives an electric generator. These are responsible for providing electricity and power required in specific and concrete circumstances, two electric motors that are in the back, which give life to Karma. Your data scare: 408 hp and maximum torque of 1,300 Nm. In the vehicle’s center tunnel, between the two axes, we find the set of lithium ion batteries of 160 kW. The autonomy of Karma leads to 480 kilometers, approximately 80 of them using 100% emission-free battery.
Driving the Fisker Karma can be enjoyed in two different modes, selectable on the steering wheel paddles. With the way “Stealth” come into operation only the two electric motors, thinking about more efficient driving. If so we reach the 153 km / h speed limit, with the “Sport” far exceeded the data and reached 200 km / h. In this way we get the maximum benefit to the vehicle, because all the engines running at the same time. Concept identical to the Opel Ampera, with many similarities and the same efficiency proposals: drive without worrying about being stranded by the batteries, like electric vehicles, based on the power provided by electric motors.
The Fisker Karma has the ability to retrofit composed of photovoltaic cells. This helps to produce energy for some of the electrical systems inside the vehicle, as the air conditioning system or sound system.
The main differences are sharpening the senses. Visually, the Karma is longer (almost reaches 5 meters), wider and lower, still more so by highlighting its sporty markedly. Acoustically, the Ampera in soundproofing wins by a landslide. However, this is where we find one of the characteristic features of Fisker. In either case, and upon reaching full throttle acceleration, the driver is surrounded by a futuristic sound authentic. And with the “Sport” mode the sporty sound of the heat engine is constant when we step on the accelerator.
As in the Opel Ampera, the Karma has four seats in an interior which highlights the high quality materials. The touch screen, like the Ampera but much more practical to control the audio system, browser, and the HVAC system. The space occupied by the electric motors in the back does not leave much room for a small trunk that is less than 200 liters.
Everything is ready for the Fisker Karma makes its appearance in the European market, where they have it easy with the likes of the BMW 750i ActiveHybrid, the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid and the Infiniti M35h . In Spain we will have later this year 2011, but you can make reservations at their website. So far, it has a luxury customer, who will be responsible for driving the first Karma goes on sale, the American actor Leonardo di Caprio.
